Liverpool head into the final day knowing that avoiding defeat against Brentford will secure a top-five finish and likely Champions League qualification. However, Arne Slot’s first season has still been viewed as disappointing, with the Reds on a three-game winless run and coming off a 4-2 defeat to Aston Villa. Liverpool have also struggled for consistency at Anfield recently, winning just two of their last five home league matches, although they will hope to respond after losing 3-2 to Brentford earlier this season.
Brentford also have European ambitions, entering the weekend level on points with eighth-placed Chelsea and still within reach of seventh-placed Brighton. Keith Andrews’s side have only lost twice in their last nine league games, but too many draws have damaged their push for Europe, while their away form has dipped sharply with no win in their last four on the road. The Bees have also failed to score in three of those matches, though another upset against Liverpool could still secure a historic European qualification spot.
